Back in April 2015 a passenger plane that can carry 78 passengers was nearly involved in a catastrophic incident when the pilot & co pilot spotted a drone flying 200 meters away from them.

The passenger plane had 3 people on board and was able to avoid a collision.

London City Airport have rated the incident at a level 2 risk.  Aviation rules state that a drone cannot be flown closer than 500 meters from any airport and certainly not 2000ft above an airport.

There has been no formal identification of who the drone belongs to, however reports from the pilot & co-pilot suggest there was some writing on the drone and was made in black & white colours.

As London City Airport has a number of open park spaces nearby it is thought that the drone could have been flown/controlled from one of these open spaces.
